Frequently Asked Questions

•Who: Who lives in the house?
The owner lives in the houses and there may be one or more other housemates. Housemates share all living spaces within the house except for bedrooms which are private. Some rooms have a private bathroom or kitchen, but not both.

What: What is included in the rent?
All utilities of heat, light, electric, TV cable, internet, house phone and parking are included in the rent.

•Guests: Can I have a guest visit me?
Guests are welcome during daylight hours and the owner reserves the right to limit the number of guests. An immediate family member may be able to spend a night over, but prior approval is required from the owner because the arrangement is one person per room.

•Price: What is the average cost?
Rents ranges between $450 and $550 per month with utilities included.

•First and last: Is it required?
Yes, this is quite normal in renting. Renters pay the last month in advance as a deposit, the first month at move in, and a series of post-dated cheques for months in between.

•Lease: Do I have to sign a lease?
No, there is no lease but there is a Shareed Accommodation Agreement. The term is considered as month to month. A copy of the Agreement is available to you on request. Go to the Contact Us page.

•Notice: What is the notice period if I decide to move out?
One month notice by the last day of a month is required, and is effective from the first day of the following month. For example, notice given on June 25 would mean that you will be moving on August 1. In the case of students, their notice is given at the time of move in because their stay is for a predetermined period. This same notice rule would apply to a student who decides to move out earlier.

•Smoking: Is smoking allowed in the house?
No, smoking is not allowed anywhere in the house including the bedrooms. Smoking outside is acceptable; in fact, most smokers prefer to smoke outside anyway!

•Drinking: Is alcohol allowed?
Use of alcohol is permitted with discretion and within socially accepted levels. Alcoholic beverages are kept in the renters' private quarters along with any "empties" they may have.

•Pets: Are pets allowed?
Because the living arrangement is of a shared nature, pets cannot be allowed with the exception of fish aquariums of a preapproved size. Alergies to pet fur and dander is not uncommon.

•Parking: Is parking included?
Parking for one vehicle only, and of an approved size, is included in the rent. A vehicle includes a motorcycle.

•Security: How can I assure my personal security?
No weapons of any type are allowed in the house. Bedrooms all have keyed locks

•Laundry: Can I do my laundry at the house?
Laundry facilities are available in all houses. In some houses, the dryer may be coin operated but the washer is free.

•Extra costs: What can I anticipate as extra costs?
Private 8X10 storage is available at most houses for $75 per month. Devices that draw excessive electicity such as sun lamps, bar fridges, space heaters/AC's, electric bicycles, etc, may have a small additional charge. Computers, desk fans, radios, and other normally used devices are not extra. Over limit gigabite downloading is also extra.

•Satisfaction: How do I know I will be happy?
Sharemyhouse will do everything possible to assure that you and the home owner are both happy customers. Specifically, it is entirely possible to be relocated to an alternative property. We are determined to have satisfied customers!
